Injury and Wound Management

Whether it’s a sport horse injury, a wound, or an injured eye, we will handle the stall rest, prescribed exercise, medication and bandage changes that your horse requires.

Laser Therapy

Our state of the art class IV laser has the deepest tissue penetration available. This insures that the laser reaches its targeted cells and can help to heal where it is needed.

The laser works by exciting the metabolism of the cells that it comes in contacts with. This raises the metabolism of the cells, which then increases blood flow and promotes healing.

We find laser therapy most helpful during the proliferation stage of wound healing, for use in tendon and ligament injuries as well as decreasing inflammation and pain caused by osteoarthritis.

Vibration Plate Therapy

Whole body vibration therapy creates notable improvements in circulation, especially in the legs and hooves. This helps aid in the rehabilitation of bone and soft tissue injuries, as well as encouraging healthy hoof growth. The vibration plate is also helpful in increasing core strength and can help manage back and neck pain. Additionally, vibration therapy can help stall-rested horses maintain bone and muscle strength, as well as preventing colic and behavioral problems that come from minimized turnout. Most horses are observed as more relaxed after a vibration plate session.

The vibration plates can also be used in a regular maintenance program and can help loosen stiff joints, increase muscle mass, and promote suppleness.

Return To Work Planning

We will help design and implement the optimal return-to-work plan with your horse’s specific injury, fitness, and career focus in mind.

Chiropractic

Dr. Katherine Johnson received her training in animal chiropractic in 2009 and enjoys using chiropractic techniques as both a diagnostic tool and a therapy to keep animals as comfortable and symmetrical as possible.

Chiropractic is a part of a whole animal approach to soundness and peak performance. Beginning with a thorough examination, followed by adjustments and stretches, animals can experience an increased range of motion in joints, decreased inflammation, and a more symmetrical and correct way of movement.

Working with your horse’s natural conformation and gate, we will prescribe exercises that will help optimize the abilities of your equine partner.
