Katherine Burke Johnson

DVM, CERP

A lifelong horseback rider and animal lover, Dr. Katherine Burke Johnson grew up in Connecticut riding and showing performance hunters. During her 12 years in ambulatory private practice, she developed a strong interest in lameness diagnosis and treatment, as well as chiropractic care of the equine athlete.

Dr. Johnson has also been an employee of the USEF for 14 years and enjoys learning about different breeds and disciplines through her work at USEF horse shows. Through the rehabilitation of her own personal injuries, combined with her work with the USEF and lameness in equine athletes, it became obvious that the rehabilitation of equine injuries had a lot of room for growth.

Dr. Johnson began taking in rehab cases in 2008 and formerly opened Veterinary Rehabilitation Services of Virginia in 2021.  Dr. Johnson enrolled in the University of Tennessee Veterinary School’s Certified Equine Rehabilitation Practitioner Program in 2020. This program, in conjunction with 20 years of equine veterinary experience, have prepared Dr. Johnson to create comprehensive rehabilitation plans while managing compensatory problems and keeping horses mentally happy during their rehab journey.

Dr. Johnson’s kind manner and positive attitude help to create a wonderful atmosphere for trust and healing to occur.  She now dedicates full time attention to her rehab patients in Gordonsville, Virginia.
